How to Disable CD/DVD drive and Removable storage USB devices in Windows 7 & Vista

Windows 7 and Vista provides an easy way to protect your private and important data from being copied or stolen by unwanted people. This is possible if you disable read/write access to Removable Storage devices like CD/DVD drive and USB Flash drives/Pen drives.

Users can either opt to deny read access/deny write access or both. When disabling read access, you can’t open or copy any files from desired removable media. When disabling write access, you can’t paste any files/folder on the removable device.
How to Disable system devices:
Go to Start, open Run or Search and type “gpedit.msc”. Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Removable Storage Access
gpedit
You’ll be presented with various options for different devices. Just open the entry you want to modify, chose Enabled button and click Ok.

How to get MNP – Move to Airtel without changing your mobile number

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is a facility which allows users to change their mobile operator while retaining their existing operator’s mobile number. Currently, MNP has been launched only in Haryana and one should be with existing operator for at least 90 days before they can port into another operator.

Airtel MNP
How to Switch to Airtel without changing your Mobile No. -
If you’re a Non-airtel mobile customer and want to move your mobile number to Airtel, then simply follow the steps below laid by Airtel to set them as your mobile operator:
1. You need to generate UPC (Unique Porting Code) by sending SMS to 1900. UPC is an alphanumeric code allocated, upon request, by a mobile operator to its subscriber for the purpose of facilitation of porting of his/her mobile number to another operator.
  • SMS to be sent : PORT to 1900. Operator SMS charges will be applicable. Eg. SMS PORT 98XXXXXXXX to 1900
2. After sending SMS to 1900, you will receive UPC (Unique Porting Code) as a SMS from 1901 giving 8 digit alpha-numeric Unique Porting Code (UPC) and UPC expiry date in MM/DD/YYYY format
3. Visit your nearest airtel outlet / showroom
4. Fill airtel Mobile Number Porting (MNP) form providing details like
  • Current Mobile Number
  • Current Operator name
  • UPC code
5. Submit Address & Id proof documents, self-attested photo and last bill copy of postpaid connection (if applicable) along-with filled MNP form and Customer Agreement Form.
6. Buy the airtel MNP SIM card from airtel outlet / showroom. SIM charges, talktime value and porting charge are non-refundable in the event of cancellation / rejection of port-in request.
7. Airtel will send an SMS on your old/existing operator’s SIM (existing connection) intimating about the porting date and time, i.e. the date and approximate time till when you can continue to use your existing operator’s SIM card.
8. There will be a 2-hour ‘no service period’ which will begin after the porting time as given above. The ‘no service period’ will be between 12 midnight to 5 am during which your mobile service will not be active on any SIM. All efforts will be made to ensure that this ‘no service period’ causes minimum inconvenience to you.
9. After the ‘no service period’, you can replace your existing operator’s SIM card with the new airtel SIM card in your handset.
Once your Airtel SIM card is activated, you would be ready to enjoy airtel’s high-quality network, innovative value added services and customer service using your existing mobile number.
MNP Charges – You have to pay a nominal porting fee of Rs.19 at the time of making the porting request. After submitting the required documents and payment you will get the Airtel MNP SIM card from the outlet.

Do We really Need Leaders?

Like millions of others, we have been thrilled and terrified by the unexpected and unprecedented news coming out of Egypt in recent weeks. As editors who work at a company specializing in, among other matters, how to lead, we've been fascinated by how assiduously various forces, for various reasons, have been trying to anoint a leader on a movement that has been aggressive about not having one. Whether it's Mohamed ElBaradei, someone from the Muslim Brotherhood, Google's Wael Ghonim, or someone else, it seems hard for many in the media to grasp the idea of a movement without a recognizable, charismatic figure (a Nelson Mandela or an Aung San Suu Kyi, or maybe even a Julian Assange) in front of it. If ever a country needed a Jim Collins-style Level 5 leader who also embodies Daniel Goleman's notions of emotional intelligence and Peter Drucker's ideas about effectiveness, it's Egypt right now.

But it's not just the media (and let's not forget that "media" is a plural word) scouring Tahrir Square for someone to take charge. We want someone to be in charge. There is, after all, plenty of evidence that leaderless organizations can dissolve into chaos just as easily as those run by dictators. But the favorite book of the U.S. Tea Partiers, other than the Constitution, is The Starfish and the Spider, which does a good job of showcasing how nontraditional organizations can thrive (unless, of course, they're co-opted). Organizations as diverse as Ushahidi and file-sharing sites show how plenty can be accomplished without an explicitly hierarchical structure. And let's not forget, as Barbara Kellerman and others have pointed out, you can't have leaders without followers. In the most enlightened organizations, the lines between the two can be almost invisible.

Of course countries don't exist without a head of state. In Egypt, it appears that the military will take that role for now, and it's too soon to tell whether that's a welcome transitional development or an ominous one. But as the world waits to see who will take over from generations of authoritarian rule, it's worth wondering: why do we take for granted that there's got to be someone at the top? Is it a social construct? Are we hard-wired for it? What do you think?
